Professor Dr. Salah Abdel Qader Al Nuaimi, an assistant professor at the College of Administration and Economics, participated in the activities of the Fifth Arab Conference on Higher Education and Sustainable Development, which is held under the title “The Role of Universities in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals,” and which is organized by the Arab Organization for Administrative Development in cooperation with the Association of Arab Universities, in the presence of Dr. Ayman Ashour. Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Nasser Al-Hattlan Al-Qahtani, Director General of the Arab Organization for Administrative Development – The League of Arab States, Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, and a number of presidents of Egyptian and Arab universities and higher education experts in Arab countries, as well as, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research for administrative affairs in Iraq, Dr. Adnan Ibrahim, with the active participation of Arab and Iraqi universities, and Dr. Salah Al-Naimi who respectfully presented his research with contemporary thought under the title “Digital transformation and higher education… a strategic vision to support the requirements of sustainable development in Arab countries”, which was well received by the participants in the conference, as sustainable development represents a vital and important topic for the future of the Arab world, especially in light of the multiple challenges facing the world today, and that universities are the best place to achieve the integration of the dimensions of sustainable economic, social, and environmental development within a comprehensive framework that achieves the goals set by the United Nations, stressing the role of universities and scientific research institutions. In providing young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to face the complex challenges surrounding us, as well as its extended impact to guide innovation and effectively contribute to shaping policies and guiding societies towards sustainable development.
In its opening session, the conference discussed the vision of academic leaders for the role of universities in achieving sustainable development goals. The attendees, including university presidents in Egypt and the Arab world, gave presentations about their universities’ experiences in achieving sustainable development, the requirements for integrating Arab universities into plans to achieve sustainable development goals, and the role of Arab universities in implementing them.
