The Continuous Education Unit, in cooperation with the Economics Department, organized a training workshop entitled “Waste Recycling in Iraq: Wasted Resources and Lost Opportunity” presented by Prof. Jassim Muhammad Musahib, the workshop addressed the issue of treating and recycling waste in the contemporary city, and the utmost importance that the topic poses from an economic standpoint, through dealing with this waste irrationally in most parts of the world, and the harms of these practices, which led to the destruction of many components of the pristine environment as well. About the huge waste of economic opportunities through not reprocessing and recycling various types of waste and reusing them as raw materials again or using them in producing electrical energy through flammable materials, especially after 2003.
The workshop aimed to explain the behavior of the phenomenon of waste production and its growth rates, demonstrate the economic feasibility of recycling operations, and suggest mechanisms to address its ongoing accumulations. The workshop was attended by a number of teachers, employees, and graduate students, where their interventions were discussed and their inquiries were answered by the lecturer after he presented a set of recommendations.
