About the department

The Department of Banking and Financial Sciences was established in the College of Administration and Economics University of Baghdad, as a result of the urgent need to provide competent graduates with the ability to perform and skillfully work in the financial sector in Iraq, and make it one of the leading divisions in the local economy.

Therefore, the efforts of 4 years of culminated hard work in preparing the department’s curricula that are comparable to the curricula in international universities, as well as the efforts made by the Dean of the College in obtaining official approvals to open this department. According to the Department of Banking and Financial Sciences administrative Order No. PK / 2688 on 10-5-2017 the most important characteristic of the Finance and Banking Department is its reliance on the curriculum system, instead of the annual system approved in all the various departments and colleges, as well as the other corresponding departments in Iraq.

In order for the student to graduate from the department, it is necessary to collect 132-136 units (hours) and not exceeding 12 semesters, where the minimum period for the student’s graduation is based on the student’s ability to successfully collect the units required for teaching.

Teaching relies heavily on the use of the English language in order to raise the level of the student in the foreign language and enable the students to continue to develop their ability to read foreign research and books. Moreover, foreign language skills enable the graduates to obtain easier and faster job opportunities and enable them to keep pace with the tremendous and rapid progress in the financial sector.

Students begin studying in the Finance and Banking Department as of November 6, 2013, with two sections for the morning study, and (7) qualified professors were appointed to teach. Lastly, the position of department head was assigned to (Professor Mahmoud Dagher Muhammad).
