The establishment of the Development Road Project and the Grand Faw Port، which represents the cornerstone of the Development Road and its affiliated projects، are economic and industrial zones of great economic importance and reflect on the development of the wheel of economic and social development، which contributes to achieving the goals of sustainable development in Iraq in the medium and long term، through the establishment of infrastructure such as roads، bridges، railways، airports and the development of existing ports، in addition to the establishment of the Faw Port، which represents the starting point of the Development Road Project، in order to connect with global trade routes، which makes Iraq an important economic corridor in the region، taking advantage of Iraq’s strategic location between the three continents، and the most important link in the region to connect the East and the West. The Development Road Project is a strategic solution to many challenges for the countries benefiting from the project، as it will seek to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development. It is expected that the Development Road Project will be a major transformation for the Iraqi economy، making Iraq the largest global logistics center in the region، and Iraq will become the core of transportation movements in the Middle East، which creates diversity in sources of income from renewable and diverse revenues and from providing job opportunities and reducing the unemployment problem and contributing to achieving the goals of sustainable development in Iraq. To inform in the research aspects، the deductive and descriptive analysis approaches were adopted، through studying the economic importance of the development road project، the Faw Port، the industrial zones، and the economic and commercial stations affiliated with the project، and answering the raised problem and proving or denying the adopted hypothesis. One of the most important conclusions reached by the research is the realization of the importance of Iraq’s strategic location linking the East and the West، shortening distance، time and costs. The development road project can be considered a key to sustainable development in Iraq due to its backward and forward linkage with a number of development projects، and thus creating interconnected relationships between the various economic sectors that seek to transform the Iraqi economy from a limited rentier economy to a sustainable and diversified economy. The most important recommendations reached by the researcher are the necessity of accelerating the establishment of the development road project to benefit from a site to link the East and the West، and that the economic and social effects resulting from the development road project and the Grand Faw Port must be exploited to achieve change in the reality of the Iraqi economy through the transportation road corridors that will pass from Faw to Fishkhabur.
