Under the patronage of His Excellency the Prime Minister, Engineer Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, and under the supervision of Advisor Dr. Adnan Al-Sarraj, the Continuing Education Unit at our College, in cooperation with the Recovery Organization for Drug Risk Reduction, organized an awareness lecture entitled “The Impact of Addiction.”
The lecture was delivered by Mr. Ali Al-Waeli from the Recovery Organization for Drug Risk Reduction, and Ms. Nadia Shakir Hussein, Lecturer and Head of the Continuing Education Unit. The session was moderated by Assistant Lecturer Mustafa Abdul Jabbar from the Department of Statistics.
During the lecture, the speaker addressed the risks associated with addiction in general, its harmful types, and its psychological and physical effects on both individuals and society. The lecture also highlighted the dangers of neglecting the fight against addiction, the importance of early detection of addiction cases, mechanisms of treatment and social reintegration of recovering individuals, as well as the significance of developing youth skills and investing in their talents to create a healthy and productive environment away from social isolation.
The seminar witnessed strong interaction from the attendees, giving it the character of an open interactive dialogue. Participants’ challenges and problems that may contribute to addiction were discussed, and appropriate approaches to addressing these issues were proposed.
